Fried Hor Fun.. free show!

Free ShowFound an interesting sign in a store located in the "Food Republic" food court in Suntec City. The sign written "Daily 'Live' show by 30 years experienced chef - Fried Egg Hor Fun".

So i decided to give this "old" chef a chance and order the Hor Fun. And of course watch the nice 'live' show (as shown the left).

Fried Hor FunThe presentation of having a raw egg on top also attracted me to try (as shown on the right). Besides the food presentation, their selling point including using of olive oil instead of pork lard (to attract the health-conscious diners), claiming that their "old" chef used to be experienced chef in top hotel at orchard.

After trying, the Hor Fun was not really fantastic. the gravy was quite plain and the beef was not really tender.
So the "30 Years Top Hotel Chef"'s Hor Fun don't really worth the $6. I think i can get better Beef Hor Fun.

大閘蟹,初体验

Lao BeijingRecently, Tung Lok group restaurants are offering Hairy crab (大閘蟹) for $45 each. We decided to try one in the Lao Beijing(老北京) restaurant located in Tiong Bahru Plaza.
The Hairy crab was steam and served in a medium sized steamer basket(蒸笼). It comes with several "items" to assist in the eating and were "nicely" presented by the waitress. We were taught on how to "eat" the crab (such as which part of the carb are inedible and what are the various "items" for?)

Tools for CrabThe dark coloured sauce (on the top left of the picture) was actually the sauce to be dripped on the crab meat. It contains mainly vinegar and some other spices. The bowl of "soup" with lemon was meant for washing your hands. The blue paste in the small saucer was actually tooth paste for washing too. The tooth paste can "kill" the smell of the crab and the lemon will able to removed the oil.

There were two spoons provided. One was for the waitress to open the crab and removed the lungs. She claimed that the lungs was too "cooling"(寒) for our body and were not suitable for consumption. The other spoon was to use for scraping the "eggs"(蟹黄)(the most delicious part for some).

All the legs will be cut off individually (for ease of eating) with the specially designed Scissors. It has a long "nose" on one side, to push the meat out from each legs. And a short blade on the other side of the scissors to cut open the shell.

Hairy CrabThe crab was quite small and not much meat from it. As the crab was steam, you can really taste the freshness (鲜甜味) of the crab meat. It taste similar to Cold Crab that i tried several years back. But personally i prefer eating crab with stronger taste like cooking with black pepper or chili. But hairy crab still worth a try if the price is reasonable.

Beside Prata, they got Mushroom....

Jerry's in Jalan KayuOne fine afternoon, my colleague decided to go Jalan Kayu for lunch. He wanted me to try the famous "Magic Mushroom". At first, i thought it was the (in)famous poisonous mushrooms that were sold in the Netherlands. But it was actually fried mushroom from Jerry's BBQ & Grill in Jalan Kayu.
It is open daily from 12pm to 10pm.

Fried MushroomThey claim to be the first to sell Deep Fried Mushroom in Singapore. Their mushrooms were crispy on the outside and really juicy on the inside. I recommend that everyone should at least try once.
Beside mushrooms, they also have a wide range of western food such as burgers and grills. Their portion is quite "generous" and the price is also reasonable.

Chop Chop Curry Pok!

TipTop LogoI have been seeing this curry puff store featured in various TV programmes on several occasions, and have been thinking of trying their puff one day. It is not Old Chang Kee or Polar Curry puff, it is the Tip Top Curry Puff in Ang Mo kio.
After my lunch in Ang Mo Kio Central this afternoon, I happened to come across the store and immediately buy one to try.

Tip Top Curry PuffThe curry puff costs $1. The curry is quite tasty and abit creamy. I recommend that everyone should try once. The price is still cheaper than other "famous" curry puff.

You can find the store at Blk 722, Ang Mo Kio Central #01-2843.

Mandarin Chicken Rice

Chicken RiceWe have a delicious Lunch at Chatterbox in Mandarin Hotel, Orchard. We are there to celebrate Mum's Birthday. We order the famous Chicken Rice and their Crayfish Laksa.

We requested not to have chicken breast for the Chicken Rice. The meat was quite tender and the rice is very tasty.

Crayfish LaksaAs for Crayfish Laksa, the gravy was quite creamy and tasty. The waiter even gave me a bowl of extra gravy (without request, kudo to the waiter). The ingredients used were of high quality and the price were also of the high side for a laksa. (It will be more worth spending on Katong laksa).

But it was definately money well spend to see my mum enjoying the meal.

TOPSHOP Drinking water

Got this nice drinking water from TOPSHOP when i was in KL shopping. It is a complimentry gift. I think they are trying to promote Kate Moss's line of clothings.

Suddenly i feel that they are "copycat"-ting those Chinatown jewellery store that giving out drinking water to their customers. But it is a nice souvenir from a fashion store, which also comes in handy (thirsty after a long shopping).
