Chili Crab and Spaghetti for Xmas

This Christmas, we decided to spend our christmas with my parents. So Rosa plan to cook a Xmas dinner for us. The dinner will consist of Chili Crab, Fried Spaghatti and Vegetable Salad.

Rosa decided to try out the Prima Deli Chili Crab Mix. My mum help by buying some "meat" crabs from the market and chopped them into pieces. While Rosa fried them with the chili crab mix.

The spaghetti were fried with prawns, ham, mushrooms, capsicum and onions.

So what is my contribution to the dinner?? I contribute by making the croutons for the salad and finishing the dinner, of course. :)

More Indo food - Es Teler 77

Es Teler 77 in Cineleisure OrchardHeard of this famous Indonesian restaurant that sell nice Indo food (especially noodle). Es Teler 77 started with a small tent beside a shopping centre in central Jakarta, has now opened more than 200 outlets throughout Indonesia, Singapore and Australia.

I never had a chance previously to try. Saw it in Orchard Cineleisure and decided to give their Chicken Noodle a try.

Chicken NoodleIt is a simple dish with abit of chicken and fried onions. It is quite delicious as the noodle is the type similar to "Kolo" mee, which i like.

Wii fit, i not very fit

Try out the Wii fit on my Nintendo Wii. The BMI shows that i am slightly overweight. I need to set a (2 weeks) target for me to get my BMI to normal.

At least my Body test shows that my body is 3 years younger than my actual age. :)

Makan Botak Jones finally.

Having been passing the Ang Mo Kio outlet for many times and finally got a chance to try their food. It is located inside a coffee shop along street 52.

We order a Fish and Chips and also a Caesar Chicken. Caesar Chicken is basically a Caesar salad with a slice of char-grilled Cajun chicken breast.

The fish was very generous and crispy. Same goes to the size of the Cajun chicken on the salad. it was nicely seasoned and grilled.

Fish and ChipsCaesar Chicken

We found something interesting in the Menu. It was the "Stuffed Jalapenos". They uses Mexican Jalapeno chilli(pronounced halapenyo) and stuffed with mozzarella cheese. Coated them with bread crumbs before frying them till golden.

Stuffed JalapenosInside the stuffed Jalapeno
The Jalapeno doesn't taste that wonderful but it is a nice experience.

My overall dining experience was good with reasonably tasty food and friendly service. The price were also reasonable.

Caesar salad 追追追。。。

Worcestershire Sauce LogoCaesar Salad, created by Caesar Cardini (Italian-born Mexican) in Tijuana, Mexico. Different people may prepare it differently, but Lettuce, Croutons and Worcestershire sauce are definitely a must in making one.

We got interested and started our hunt for caesar salad after trying it at "New York New York Deli" Cafe in Centrepoint several weeks ago. Having tried from various restaurants, most of them taste good.

Swensen's Caesar Salad with ChickenSwensen's Caesar Salad with Fish
Especially from Swensen's, their chicken is crispy and the sauce is added in seperately by yourself (Shown above).

Secret Recipe's Caesar SaladNew York New York's Caesar Salad
Caesar Salad from Secret Recipe(Left) and New York New York(Right) are also good. So far, the worst we tried is from Delifrance in Ngee Ann City.

Stay healthy and Eat more greens. :)

Update on 20th Dec 2008 -

Bakerzin's Caesar SaladTried the Caesar Salad from Bakerzin. They used slice of garlic bread instead of croutons and the sauce was too thick to be mixed with the vegetables. Not the salad that i will recommend.

Popeyes Chicken in T3

Popeyes Chicken and BiscuitsSaw alot of Cartoon-theme restaurants in Singapore. There is Snoopy Restaurant (previously in Plaza Singapura), Disney Naturally Restaurants in Anchorpoint (previously posted in my blog). Now Popeyes Chicken and Biskuits.

I visited one of their outlet in Terminal 3 (Changi Airport).

Two piece Chicken with 4 drumletsI ordered two piece fried chicken meal (consist of Cajun fries and a biscuits). I requested for thigh meat. They serve a thigh and a drumstick. The chicken are crispy and the cajun fries taste good.

But when you talk about good fried chicken, i will still recommend Arnold's Chicken (previously posted)

Gina's Vadai Lost and Found

Makan Places Lost and Found 3We watch Michelle enjoying her Vadai (pronounced "vah-dey") in the TV show "Your Makan Places Lost and Found 3". Decided to find the place and try it ourselves. The Vadai (many call it indian donut) were from Gina's Vadai located at the junction of East Coast Rd and Still Rd.

Gina's VadaiWe ordered a cheese vadai, a Chilli and a prawn one. Their vadai is quite small and expensive. Each vadai cost 80 cents and the cheese vadai is $1.80.
They are not as tasty as expected. The Cheese vadai taste abit like cheese pancake. Chinese fried prawn cake taste better and crispier than the prawn vadai.

Carlton RestaurantThe store is actually located inside a coffeeshop called "Carlton Restaurant"

Di DaDi, di da di da di Restaurant

Dadi Signboard outside the shopA nice Nasi Padang place along East Coast Rd. Dadi Restaurant sells standard muslim food but their Nasi Padang (which only sell during lunchtime) is the highlight for this posting.

I ordered the Beef Redang, begedil(potato bite), Sambal Goreng and Lady's finger. The Redang is thick and tasty. The beef is tender. The begedil and sambal goreng are also very nice.

Dadi RestaurantNasi Padang

Their Nasi Padang is a must try. You need to be early as their food run out fast. I will be back to try out more of their other Nasi Padang food.

Jim Bean Steak??

Jim Bean Steak Sauce(1/8/08) Found this interesting steak sauce from my neighbourhood Cold Storage. It claims to be using Jim Beam Bourbon whiskey in the sauce.

Just wondering how it will taste like on a steak. Might just get drunk eating with the sauce.

(Updated - 30/11/08) Found another BBQ sauce in Cold Storage. This one uses Budweiser beer.

Lor Mee "War" in Tiong Bahru Market (卤面"大战")

卤面 178I always been eating "Lor Mee" (卤面) from this 卤面 178 store in Tiong Bahru Market (food centre). Today, i decided to try the other famous Lor Mee store from the food centre.

This store, Tiong Bahru Lor Mee, is located at the end corner of the food centre. Long queue as usual. Selling at $2.5 and $3.

Both Lor Mee taste really good. But i will still prefer the 卤面 178 as they are more generous in their serving. They also comes with nice crispy deep fried shark meat. Try it.

E.R.P Rice anyone?

Found this ERP(Economic Rice Pricing) store in Ghim Moh Market (food centre). The Signboard was designed like a ERP gantry. Not sure whether this signboard capture any attention from the pubilc, but at least it caught mine.

I was at the food centre on a Saturday morning and the shop was closed. Wonder if the shop can survive in this competitive food centre.

Press the Doorbell to flush??

Saw this interesting toilet flush in a office building (located in the northern part of the conutry). It looks like a Doorbell switch. But it works well as a toilet flush.

You might hear a "Ding Dong" everytime you flush. :)

Nice food in Red Hill Market

When to Redhill market for lunch and found some famous/good food to recommend. There is this Fried carrot cake store, Fu Ming cooked food. We tasted their white carrot cake. The cake is nicely seasoned and very tasty.

Another famous food is the "Bak Kee Teochew Satay Bee Hon". You will always see a long queue in fornt of the store. The gravy is thick and tasty. If you wanna try it during weekend, it is likely to "sold out" before dinner.

There is a good fried oyster omelette (蚝煎) in the food centre but the store was not open today. Will attached the photo of the store when i visit them the next time.

Most expensive potato chips

Tyrrell's sweet chilli & red pepper potato chipsSaw this new brand of potato chips "Tyrrell's potato chips" selling in my neighbourhood Cold Storage. Decided to give it a try. It was the most expensive potato chips i ever bought. It cost $6.50 for a 150 grams pack and claims to be produced in Herefordshire (UK).

The taste of the chips is abit unique and very crispy. But i think i will not try again with this price tag.

Art picture at Raffles City

Saw this interesting "giant" portrait on Raffles City, facing the Old Capital Cinema.

When you initially see it from the daylight, it looks colourfully and "lively". But when looking at the image through a red and blue filters, it will show the hidden images of sad and agony faces. Those faces reference the tragedy present in other parts of the world.

This art work is by a Spanish artist, Isaac Montoya, called "Fantasmas (Phantoms)".

School Pocket Money Fund

SPMF Charity BearIn supporting the School Pocket Money Fund (SPMF), my company organised a SPMF roadshow to sell the SPMF Charity Bear at the cafeteria today.

The aim of the SPMF is to alleviate the financial burden faced by parents in providing for their children's education. At the same time the funds will help children who are already facing financial difficulties in school to stay on.

Each bear is priced at S$3 and my company will donate S$1 for each bear sold. I bought 2 bears to support them (one with the red ribbon and other with the green one).

Unique food in wedding dinner

Ostrich SteakNever tried an Ostrich steak before. Never think that i will eat an Ostrich steak in a wedding dinner. But i ate this, "Pan-fried Ostrich Steak, garnished with Asparagus and Onion"(shown in the picture) during a wedding dinner last weekend.

Baby Abalone with Lingzhi MushroomBesides the standard Shark-fin soup and Steam fish, there was a dish "Braised Whole Baby Abalone with Lingzhi Mushroom", which comes with a baby abalone for everyone(shown in the picture). Can you identify the abalone? The small little one on top of the plate.

Coral WeedI also found some weird stuffs in my "Mango Puree with Sago", which others don't have. They were actually Coral Weed. Never know that they are edible. It actually quite tasteless and texture like chicken soft bone. Rumours that it is good for joints.

Really an experience to taste these unique dishes in a wedding dinner.
