Famous food in Holland???

Leong Wei Roasted DelightThere isn't many good food in Holland area. Many people only know about the XO fish bee hoon. Recently there is a store in Holland Drive market selling roasted ducks and char siew, drawing queues everyday.
The store even featured in the Channel 8 food show "Where the Queue Starts 2", which was hosted by Bryan Wong.

The store is "Leong Wei Roasted Delight", unit 02-36 inside Holland drive Market. Open daily except thursday.

Roasted Duck, Meat and Char Siew RiceI ordered the roasted duck with roasted meat and Char siew rice. The roasted duck was quite delicious. The duck meat is quite juicy (not dry and hard) but the skin was not really crispy (maybe due to the moisture kept in the meat).
The roasted meat was good, the skin was crispy and nice layer of fats and lean meat in each pieces.
The Char siew was average and there wasn't any thick char siew sauce to goes with it.
The sauce for the duck rice was a little too "light" in taste that makes the rice taste abit too plain.

I took last than 20 mins to get my duck rice. If you happen to drop by Holland Drive Market, don't forget to give it a try.

How Crispy is your Prata..??

The Roti Prata HouseWent for prata hunt again. This time we decided to try "The Best Crispy Prata", which is "recommended" by The New paper. It is at the "The Roti Prata House" store along Upper Thomson Road. They open 24 hours.

Various PrataWe order a plain, egg and paper prata (shown in picture). The prata was quite tasty and the paper prata was very crispy. It looks like the paper prata was deep fried as it was quite oily.

Nasi GorengThe Nasi Goreng Ikan bilis here was quite good. It is not very strong in pepper.

Overall the food was good and the price in still reasonable.

Disneyland in Singapore???

Washing BayWhile shopping in the newly renovated Anchorpoint shopping mall, I found an interesting Disney restaurant, Disney Naturally.
It is located on the ground floor besides the main entrance.

EntranceIt was nicely decorated with various famous Disney character such as Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck to attract kids.

You can see the shape of Mickey everywhere in the restaurant.

Entrance

InsideAs the name suggest, Disney Naturally, you can see from the menu that they are focusing on selling "naturally" grown fruits and vegetable in fruit juices and pizza.

PizzaI ordered a "Pino's Fancy" pizza, which contains pepperoni, capsicum, turkey ham, onion and pineapple. It comes with a cute "Mickey" shape, instead of a normal round.

The food is not really tasty but the price is still affordable with fruit blend at $5.50 and pizza between $13.90 to $15.90.

The adventure of TinTin

I was shown with a small red rocket (identical to the rocket in the picture on the left) by my colleague. It looks familar but i can't seems to recall where i used to saw it. Then he told me it was a collectable from the Tintin comic, which he bought in Belgium.

Abit about the comic, Tintin was a boy reporter, which travels around the world. First appeared in 1929 in a children's section for a Belgian daily newspaper. The author Herge (real name Georges Remi), with no formal art training, draw the first Tintin at the age of twenty-two.

The Tintin comic was actually quite popular during my primary school days. I did not really have much chances to read it, as it was hard to find in the school library.

After being "re-introduced" to Tintin again, i decided to pick up some from the national library. I am surprised that it is not like those children comic (such as Doraemon), which contain short and simple stories for the children.

More reading (of comics) for me during weekends.... heee... :)

Don't be Kayu, go Jalan Kayu..

Original Thasevi FoodHaving been hearding alot of Jalan Kayu roti prata and have never got a chance to try it. So we decided to make a trip to jalan kayu and try the orginal "Jalan Kayu Roti Prata" - Thasevi Food.
We order a plain, egg and tissue prata each. The plain and egg prata were miserably small and not really tasty, as claimed. (Not worth for a picture to be taken, :P )

Tissue PrataThe tissue prata (shown on the right) is above average, thin and crispy. Just like those found in other famous prata store.

Nasi GorengWe also order a nasi goreng ikan bilis (Malay fried rice with anchovies), to try their cooking besides prata. It is just average with strong on pepper. The pepper had covered the taste of the fried rice.

Overall, it is a disappointing trip. The price was on the high side (for kopi shop food) and the food were not as tasty as their reputation suggested. If you really looking for prata, i will suggest that you try Niqqi's The Cheese Prata shop in Clemeti or Al-Ameen Eating House in Bukit Timah instead.

Rubik...My new toy

Rubik CubeStart to pick up Rubik's cube few weeks ago. Got a cheapo one for $2 from a neighbour shop. But after "struggling" with the cheapo "magic" cube for a week, i decided to get a proper Rubik's cube from Toys 'R' Us for $10.95.

After playing and reading up some of the "helpful" website that teaches on solving the cube, i am able to solve the cube below 5 minutes (the world record is below 15 sec).

For anyone interested to pick up Rubik's cube, you can start with this video. (http://www.metacafe.com/watch/296901/how_to_rubiks_cube/)
