School Pocket Money Fund

SPMF Charity BearIn supporting the School Pocket Money Fund (SPMF), my company organised a SPMF roadshow to sell the SPMF Charity Bear at the cafeteria today.

The aim of the SPMF is to alleviate the financial burden faced by parents in providing for their children's education. At the same time the funds will help children who are already facing financial difficulties in school to stay on.

Each bear is priced at S$3 and my company will donate S$1 for each bear sold. I bought 2 bears to support them (one with the red ribbon and other with the green one).

Unique food in wedding dinner

Ostrich SteakNever tried an Ostrich steak before. Never think that i will eat an Ostrich steak in a wedding dinner. But i ate this, "Pan-fried Ostrich Steak, garnished with Asparagus and Onion"(shown in the picture) during a wedding dinner last weekend.

Baby Abalone with Lingzhi MushroomBesides the standard Shark-fin soup and Steam fish, there was a dish "Braised Whole Baby Abalone with Lingzhi Mushroom", which comes with a baby abalone for everyone(shown in the picture). Can you identify the abalone? The small little one on top of the plate.

Coral WeedI also found some weird stuffs in my "Mango Puree with Sago", which others don't have. They were actually Coral Weed. Never know that they are edible. It actually quite tasteless and texture like chicken soft bone. Rumours that it is good for joints.

Really an experience to taste these unique dishes in a wedding dinner.

Battle of the Ang Ku Kueh (红龟粿) in Alexandra Village

Tasty Ang Ku KuehAlway thought that there is only one store in Alexandra village for good Ang Ku Kueh (红龟粿). But recently found that there are actually two famous Ang Ku Kueh store, 老婶阿嬤潮州粿 and POH CHEU (寳洲手工制作筍粿红龟粿). Both have won several awards such as Makansutra and recommendations from the various press .

They also sell Soon Kueh(筍粿), Rice Cake(饭粿) and Ku Cai Kueh(韭菜粿). I did not try all their Kuehs but both store sells good tasty kueh.

McDonald "care for the environment"? Not really.

McDonald's have always been committed to protect the enviroment. By 1991, McDonald’s (Singapore) had become Singapore's single largest user of recycled paper and committed to minimise waste production. But it doesnt seem so after our visited to try on their new Wasabi Fillet 'O' Fish burger last sunday.

I ordered a Wasabi Fillet 'O' Fish meal and it was wrapped in paper and place into a burger box. Normally they will either use paper or the box to contain the burger but not using both. Beside the trouble of opening the box and unwrapping the burger, i feel that it is actually creating more waste. Doesn't seems to be aligning to their commitment to reduce waste.

As for the burger, it is interesting to use wasabi with Fillet 'O' Fish. But i think wasabi still goes better on Sushi or fried prawn (Wasabi mayo prawn). So i will not recommend this burger.
